Aerial Yoga FAQ's
Do I need to be fit or flexible?
Absolutely not. The beauty of aerial yoga is anybody can start today, right where they are at. It wouldn’t make much sense to hold off until you were already ‘fit/flexible’ to begin, would it?
What if I’ve never done yoga before?
Knowledge or experience of traditional yoga is not required at all.
Am I too heavy?
You are not too heavy. In fact, aerial yoga’s ability to take the pressure off of joints makes it an ideal activity for heavier participants.
Am I too old?
You are never too old. Aerial yogi’s come from all stages of life, from 8 to 80 and beyond. As an added bonus, aerial yoga is considered to be an ‘anti-aging’ activity as it defies the aging effects of gravity. You won’t find a better all-natural facelift.
Who shouldn’t do aerial yoga?
Aerial yoga is definitely not for you at the moment if you are pregnant or recovering from surgery of any kind. It is also advisable to avoid aerial yoga if you suffer from glaucoma, very high or low blood pressure or have suffered a recent stroke. Students with osteoporosis, a hernia, carpal tunnel syndrome, severe vertigo or any other medical condition are encouraged to consult with their doctor first.
What should I wear?
Do yourself a favour and wear comfortable fitted clothing. Loose clothing can get in the way (and end up around your ears when inverting). For your own benefit, ensure your clothes cover your underarms and the backs of your knees (silk burn is no fun). Shoes are removed before each Aerial Yoga class so you might want to stick with footwear that is easily taken on and off.
What should I bring?
Bring along a gym towel, a drink bottle and a willing attitude.
Why do I need to remove jewellery/zippers?
These items are not safe in a class environment. Rings, watches, earrings, etc can all become snagged on yourself, another student or the silk fabric. This can potentially damage people, equipment and your precious valuables.
Is it safe?
As long as you follow instructions, aerial yoga is a safe and fun practice. Even with your feet in the air, you are rarely more than an arm’s length from the floor. The rigging and hammock’s used in aerial yoga are carefully weight-tested and can safely support several hundred kilograms.
Will I go upside down?
Only if you want to! Inversion therapy is what brings many people to aerial yoga, but if that is not your thing, the decision is entirely up to you. There is no pressure to participate in anything you don’t feel comfortable with.
Do I just turn up for a class?
Class numbers are strictly limited. Please be sure to book online before class to reserve your hammock.
Can I book a one-on-one session?
Yes, you certainly can. Simply get in touch for further details or to arrange a suitable time.
Can I book a private group?
Private Groups of all types are more than welcome to come and discover what Aerial Yoga is all about.
Why do I need to take Fundamentals first?
The prerequisite Aerial Yoga Fundamentals ensures all students are familiar with the necessary safety protocols and foundational moves before joining in other lessons. This is for the safety and consideration of everyone coming to class.
How much does it cost?
Check out the Casual Pricing page for a full list of current prices. A standard ticket for a typical Aerial Yoga class costs $20.00 (this is reduced to $18 for Senior Card holders). An Aerial Yoga Fundamentals ticket is $29.95.
